Frozen chocolate banana bites filled with peanut butter are a delicious treat not only for summer. Make a large batch of these and store them in the freezer until ready to enjoy!
We love easy to make treats and snacks and these frozen chocolate banana bites are one of them. Because of their easy preparation and little ingredients, this is the perfect recipe to make with your kids as well!
In the possible variations section you will find substitution tips as well as some optional add-ons.
How to make frozen chocolate banana bites with peanut butter
Cut each banana into thin slices. Then, take one slice and cover it with peanut butter. You don’t need much – somewhere between ¼-½ teaspoon, but you can use as much as you wish.
Next, top it with another slice of banana and your sandwich is ready. You can now place it onto a tray, baking sheet or anything that fits into your freezer and repeat the process with the rest of the bananas.
They should chill in the freezer for at least 30 minutes.
Take out the tray. Dip all the peanut butter banana bites in melted chocolate (melt it on a stove in double-boiler or in a microwave), one at a time. I use 1 or 2 forks to do this. Place them back onto the same tray and pop them into the freezer.
You can drizzle some chocolate or melted peanut butter over them, but it is not necessary.
Put the frozen banana bites into a ziploc bag and store them in the freezer until you are ready to enjoy them.
Possible variations
- Peanut butter can be substituted with almond butter or Nutella.
- You can cover only half of the banana bite with chocolate, if you like.
- I used dark chocolate, but you can use semisweet if you like.
- To add an extra crunch or a different texture to these frozen banana bites, you can sprinkle them with finely chopped nuts (peanuts, pecans, hazelnuts, ...), sprinkles, coconut shavings ...
- For mess-free eating, stick a toothpick or a cocktail stick into each one of these chocolate-covered banana bites.
For best results use ripe bananas that are still hard to touch or when you bite into them.
I like to leave them at room temperature for about 10 minutes, so that they are not extra cold when I bite into them, but you can enjoy them right away, if you like.

Frozen Chocolate Banana Bites
Frozen chocolate banana bites filled with peanut butter are a delicious treat not only for summer. Make a large batch of these and store them in the freezer until ready to enjoy!
Ingredients
- 4 bananas, see note 1
- 3 tablespoons peanut butter, see note 2
- 3 ounces dark chocolate, see note 3
Instructions
- Cut the bananas into about ¼ inch slices (0.5 centimeters) or slightly ticker, if you like. Take one slice and spread some peanut butter over it. Cover with other banana slice and place this “banana sandwich” onto a baking parchment-lined baking sheet/or tray that will fit into a freezer. Repeat until you have used all the bananas.
- Place the tray into a freezer for 30 minutes.
- Melt the chocolate either over double boiler (bain-marie) or in a microwave. Dip each banana sandwich in the melted chocolate and place it back onto the same tray. Repeat with the rest of the bites.
- Transfer the bites back to the freezer until they are frozen completely.
- Optional: Drizzle with melted chocolate or peanut butter.
- Enjoy!
Notes
- Avoid using over-ripen bananas. The best ones are those that are harder rather than softer.
- I used about ¼ to ½ teaspoon of filling per bite. You can use less or more if you like.
- Dark chocolate or semisweet chocolate is perfect for this recipe.
- Once frozen, keep them in an airtight container in the freezer before serving.
- Note that they will “sweat” at room temperature and the chocolate can start melting if too hot.
- Please note that the nutritional information is a guide only. The calculator uses all the ingredients to calculate the calories, carbs, etc but bear in mind that you will not use all of it so the nutritional count will be lower than stated.
