Looking for impressive yet easy appetizers for the Holidays? Why not make this Christmas wreath cheese board! This fun cheese platter is easily customizable!
One of the advantages of making cheese boards is the fact that you can use anything you and your guests like. So why not try to make this pretty Christmas appetizer this holiday season?
How to make Christmas wreath cheese board
I started with making a rosemary wreath first. The sprigs were not really flexible, so I used wire for sugar flowers to hold them together. This also helped me to turn them into a nice round shape.
If you don’t want to use a wire, you can also just arrange them loosely in a circle (try using shorter sprigs).
Next, all you have to do, is choose what you want to use. For this Christmas wreath cheese board, it is better to dice the cheese rather than using slices.
Once you have chosen all the food items, you need to arrange them around the rosemary wreath. You can either keep the sprigs on the outside and arrange the cheeses, meats, and fruits on the inside.
I opted for placing the snacks on both sides (on the outside as well as on the inside).
What cheese to use for a cheese board?
The beauty of a cheese board is the fact that you can customize it to your (or your guests’) liking. The same goes for a charcuterie board or antipasti platter.
For this Christmas wreath cheese board, I chose Mini Mozzarella Balls (Pearls) that I threaded onto toothpicks with cherry tomatoes and prosciutto. You can use fresh basil leaves instead of prosciutto like I did to make Caprese salad bites.
Red cheddar was my next choice. You can add as many cheeses as you like. Here are some ideas for you:
- Mozzarella
- Monterey Jack
- Gouda
- Goat cheese
I don’t have a wooden cheese board. What else can I use?
To make Christmas wreath cheese board you can use a round-shaped serving tray, cutting board or large serving plate.
What other food items can I use to make this easy cheese board?
- Dried fruits - cranberries, dates, apricots
- Nuts - pistachios, cashews, …
- Cocktail onions or cocktail dill pickles
- Salami of your choice
In general, a Christmas wreath cheese board looks pretty when using larger (ball-shaped items like cherry tomatoes, cocktail onions, olives, grapes alongside diced cheeses). Then you can finish it off with small items like dried nuts and fruits.
You can also add more rosemary sprigs. Feel free to experiment and use what you and your guests like. More cheese, no prosciutto, extra olives, …

Christmas Wreath Cheese Board
Looking for impressive yet easy appetizers for the Holidays? Why not make this Christmas wreath cheese board! This fun cheese platter is easily customizable!
Ingredients
- fresh rosemary sprigs, see note 1
- 14 mini mozzarella balls
- prosciutto, torn into bite-size pieces
- 14 cherry tomatoes
- 4 ounces red cheddar cheese, diced (120 grams)
- ¼ English cucumber, sliced
- 1 cup grapes
- 1 cup olives
- fresh cranberries
- ¼ teaspoon dried oregano
Instructions
- Start by forming a large circle out of the rosemary sprigs: Either you put them onto a large round cheese board/tray/plate loosely and form a circle out of them or you tie them together with a wire first(I used a wire for sugar flowers – this is used in cake making) and then shape them into a circle.
- Once done, you can start arranging everything around the wreath. I started with Caprese bites (on a cocktail stick, thread cherry tomato, a piece of prosciutto or basil and mini mozzarella ball). Make 14 and arrange them around.
- Next, arrange the rest of the ingredients and fill any gaps with cranberries.
- You can also sprinkle the ready-made wreath with dried oregano or thyme, if you like.
- This wreath is best served within 2-3 hours.
Notes
- You can either place the sprigs onto a large round tray to form a circle or use a wire for sugar flowers (this is used in cake making) to hold the sprigs together. My sprigs were hard and not pliable, so I had to use the wire.
- Olives – you can use any kind of olives you like. If you decide to use olives that still have stones in them, make sure to let your guests know beforehand.
- Take this cheese board as an inspiration only. You don’t have to make the exact one as in the photo. Feel free to use what you like.
- Time – You may need more or less time to make this cheese board. This will depend on how much stuff you want to use or whether you decide to make the rosemary wreath or not.
- Serving size – please note that the serving size can vary. This will depend on whether you serve more appetizers with this cheese board and also on how many hours you are planning on entertaining as well as your guests.
- Make sure to serve this cheese board with crackers, pretzel sticks, bread, crostini or a combination of some of these.
- I used a 15-inch (38 centimeters) wide cheese board.
