In a bowl, combine cheddar, mayonnaise, pressed garlic and a pinch of black pepper. When ready, stir in chives.
Serve as a dip or spread.
Optional: Top each canape with roughly chopped walnuts or sprinkle over the dip.
Notes
I usually use 2 garlic cloves but some might find it too strong. I suggest you start with one and add more, if needed.
In this recipe I used about a tablespoon of chopped chives. You can add more or less, if you like. The chives can be omitted completely if you don’t have them on hand.
This dip can be served as a spread over canapes, toasted bread or crackers. You will get about 16 canapes out of this recipe. When serving as a dip, you will get about ¾ cup.
When using this dip/spread for canapes add an extra 10 minutes to the overall time.
